A year passed...

It seems ages since I was last here. And it is. I was kinda shocked when I saw I was last here in September. Almost as surprised as when I realised a couple of weeks ago that it was a year since my op. And though I didn't notice the time passing as is often the case when you are busy, I don't seem to have done very much.

Physically I have fully recovered, which took until the early part of this year - it takes longer once you get older, and though I was 90% quite quickly, the last bit seemed to drag on a bit. So through to Christmas I was still taking this fairly easy, and then it was winter, which is so depressing if you don't like the cold or the rain or just having no sunshine for what felt like weeks on end.

March started better, then the car had to go, it would have cost twice what it was worth to keep it on the road. So it was find a cheap (very) car quickly that was ready to drive. Thank you eBay, even including the tense last few minutes waiting toi see if I had won. I now have an old, very bright red, Peugeot 205. Which does what it says on the tin, gets me to and from.

Also during the whole time work has been changing to accommodate all the cuts (I'm still in local government) and my job has changed with it. It's still the same, but with 'extras', involving training and stuff, but at least we got an upgrade with it. And in six months time when everyone has had their cut, I hope to start feeling the benefits! LOL

And maybe now things have settled down I will start participating here a bit more again. Of course, this will depend on whether I can keep this old laptop running, 'cos I've broken my main PC. Again! It works, but there is no signal to the screen, so I can't see quite what is working. I suspect the main board has given up, along with the video card, so it's upgrade time. The card has been playing up for a while, so I switched back to on-board, but then that went as well. Can't wait to get flashy new board, processor, RAM etc. Meantime, this 10yr-old Dell will have to do. I have to plug in a mouse 'cos the touch pad can't feel, one speaker doesn't speak so there are wires all over my table, and there was no way Windows would connect to the internet, so it's on Linux (Ubuntu 11.04) & Firefox (5.*). All free, and they work. What more could I want? Well, apart from sitting comfortably at a proper workstation...

Anything else? Yep, I now have a cat. A rescue one, now nearly two. She was an 'indoor' cat from a family who lived near a road, and she was beginning to get a bit 'enthusiastic' playing with their small children (and is still very wary of them), but she is generally ok with adults. And I have the scratches to prove it! It's been realy funny watching her take her first steps outside. After about a month she is still tip-toeing across grass, and tends to stick to the edges of our enclosed garden, but getting better all the time.

And that's about all I have done.

Note to self. 'Must get out more'. LOL

BTW, I'm on Facebook, as Susan James

  • Susan James @Lucy. Guess which computer I stored the pics on! However, they are on Facebook as well. I will try and get some on this machine from my phone, but it's old and lacking in wireless and Blutooth, and kinda short on usb ports - I have to disconnect one...  more
