    Knowing computers are a tempuramental lot, the following procedure is recommended....

    Take old boots off......

    Give it a foot message.....

    Put on some new shiny boots, preferably stilletos....

    If that doesn't work... Chocolates!!!

    Next time there's trouble would you like a quick mail to let you know? I figured it was a server problem but put it down to general lack of service rather than it just needing a "swift size 9 up the input ports".

    Sorry, looks like the chat server fell over. That happens now and again as it needs to be rebooted about once a week.

    It only takes about 15 seconds to reboot but it can sometimes be hours before I find out it's gone down.

    I've rebooted it now so it should be fine for another week or so.

    Exactly how did you "reboot" it Katie? Put on your leather pair with the high heels and give it a good kick? I find that works well.

    Sounds like more fun than simply issuing a linux command via SSH.

    Yes please. If the chat room is ever down for any length of time it's nearly always because I don't know it's crashed. If I can find out sooner I can fix it sooner.

    We're going to try to automatically reboot the server once every day as soon as I've figured out how to write a script to do that.
