Marsha's real life surprise

This may surprise some about me, but much of what is said here does actually shape my views. So I am not as close minded as some may think. Below is a letter to the editor in my local LGBT Newsletter titled "Challenges for the New Board" followed by my response titled "Unity". I removed last names for privacy.

    Challenges for the New Board
    by Carl XXXXXX

From my observations of recent Editorials, Board Actions, and
FCN News censorship, there appears to be an emerging controversy
amongst FCN Membership. The new Board will need to decide in
what direction to take FCN in the next decade.
As stated in the FCN Cover Page, the FCN was chartered by “A
Group of concerned Citizens Seeking a Gay and Lesbian Positive
Community”. Is this our continuing goal? If so, how are you going
to lead the FCN Membership to this end? Your methods are stated
“A Forum to Share Strengths and Ideas, Personal Growth And
Provide Social Activities”. Are you going to be influenced more
by the Conservative Factions of the Membership, or are you going
to embrace a progressive role in pursuing your goals? I get very
frustrated at action and Editorials that attack contributions of our
more active and progressive members that contribute with great
    passion and hard work.
Spencer’s series is certainly a story about “Personal Growth”. I am
waiting for FCN News to publish the last segment. Jesse has
contributed with so much passion and energy for many events that
have helped in “Seeking a Gay and Lesbian Positive Community”.
Are we going to follow a “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” philosophy, or are
we going to stand together to become visible and united? I wish all
the new Board Members the power and wisdom to lead us forward.

    Unity
by Marsha XXXXXXX, FCN Board Member

Lately, the word “united” seems to be taking on a new meaning. I
was raised on the definition of united being a group working together
for a common goal. Nowhere in the definition does it say we all have
to think the same, be the same religion, or be of the same politics.
We just need to work together for a common goal, pretty simple.
It is my belief that doing anything other than working together is
destructive. Here at FCN, our goal is to be treated as equal, yet
here we are right off the bat looking at excluding views because
they may not be like our own. I am referring to Carl XXXXXX’s
letter “Challenges for the New Board” This is not about Spencer or
Jesse, who each are in their own way true believers in our
community. And there is no question Carl has the best intentions for
FCN and our community in mind. However, I have to argue that we
need to involve everyone without exception.
As a board member I seek and expect input from everyone, and that
means conservative, progressive, pink, purple, yellow or whatever.
My challenge is not for the new board. My challenge is to the
members of FCN and the greater Savannah community to give their
input regardless of how they think some may accept it. My door is
    open. marsha

So as you see, in real life, I am far from close minded. I see myself probably slightly right of center and definitely neither extreme conservative or progressive. If the opportunity comes up to discuss things here that can help my community, I hope I can count on members here to help.

    Hugs,
    Marsha
