    Gender Reassignment

Berkeley May Pay for Employees' Gender Reassignment Surgery
Berkeley's City Council could vote to spend taxpayer dollars on gender reassignment surgeries. An item on tonight's agenda would set aside $20,000 a year to help city employees pay for their sex changes. The city's two employee health care providers, Kaiser and Health Net, don't currently cover the surgery, which can cost $50,000 or more. It's unclear if any city workers are seeking a sex change.

No action taken at last night's Council Meeting:

    SFGATE:
    (01-18) 22:13 PST Berkeley, Calif. (AP) --

The Berkeley City Council has postponed a vote on a proposal to use taxpayer money to pay for sex-change operations for city employees.

Council members on Tuesday decided to delay a final decision on the issue until Feb. 15.
