Berkeley May Pay for Employees' Gender Reassignment Surgery
Berkeley's City Council could vote to spend taxpayer dollars on gender reassignment surgeries. An item on tonight's agenda would set aside $20,000 a year to help city employees pay for their sex changes. The city's two employee health care providers, Kaiser and Health Net, don't currently cover the surgery, which can cost $50,000 or more. It's unclear if any city workers are seeking a sex change.
