Advancing transgender equality: a plan for action

  • December 9, 2011 10:41 AM GMT

Yesterday, after months of consultations and an online survey, the government issued an action plan for trans people entitled Advancing transgender equality: a plan for action.  The plan is aimed to help eradicate transphobic bullying in both schools and in the work place.  The plan was instigated by the Liberal Democrat MP and Home Office Minister Lynne Featherstone (who outlined the plan at 'Sparkle in the Park' event held in Manchester earlier this year).

At least the government now seems to be actively supporting trans people in the UK which is another step forwards in our fight for equality and fairness.

A PDF of the Action Plan can be downloaded from the Home Office's web site here:-

Here is the Daily telegraph's take on this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/8944209/Schoolchildren-could-be-given-lessons-in-being-transgender.html

TheDaily Mail has a similar story with quotes complaining about the decision:
