I never fail to be amazed by some people's attitudes to hormones. Some folk seem to think they are like a nice pizza and they ask, which is best, Perreroni, spicy chicken, seafood or vegi and should I have a side order of coleslaw?

The truth is that whilst hormones can change your life for the better if used properly, they can also destroy your life and even kill you if used without proper medical supervision.

Rather than a good pizza, perhaps it would be better to liken them to well known poisons, like arsenic, hemlock and cyanide and ask, would you like a side order of Deadly Nightshade with that?

Whenever I am asked for advice on 'mones, my advice is always the same. Go and see you GP and ask for a referral to a Gender Specialist who is able to prescribe the correct hormone regime for you and, most importantly, monitor its progress over time.

Please take this advice and spread the word too - hormones are not the same as M&M's.

    Hope that's useful. Katie x

That is my view too Katie, we have had stories on here where members have ordered online without knowledge or understanding of dosages and type of hormone to take and have ended up in hospital with heart attacks or wrecked their livers because they didn't know what they were doing and/or didn't understand the contra-indications of existing medical conditions which they had.

Just because you want a pair of boobs (and there is no guarantee that you will - results vary greatly from one person to another) you can wreck your life or at best ruin your existing sex life permanently should you decide to start self medding with oestrogens.

Anybody who recommends simply buying them over the internet without knowing the medical history of the person involved and understanding all the contra-indications risks being charged with assisted suicide should things go badly wrong.
