It seems I am to become the subject of some more research by a university. During a discussion on significant changes in mid life, I nonchalantly mentioned that I love the fact that I am TG, I fully embrace it and have never been happier!
What a reaction! I have since been bombarded with emails requesting me to write something about myself, a little personal TG history to submit for a case study and part of ongoing research (to be published next year I believe). My only reservation was that I should be allowed to read how my information would be used before it was published, to prevent it being misinterpreted or misused, however this has since been agreed so I am now putting something together.
Of course, my transgenderism isn’t a mid life crisis, although I was 30 before I accepted it fully and that is one point I have made absolutely clear. However, I do accept that it has taken until now for me to be more active, and certainly previous studies indicate that our TG feelings continue to rise as we grow older, with a large number of people around 40 undergoing transition.
I view the research very positively, since I see it as another opportunity to highlight our cause and bring us another step closer to us being accepted by society.
