Back in the saddle, sort of

    Hi all,

    Just have a minute here.

First, I wish to express my sadness at the loss of our sister Briony.  While I never met her in person, I am proud to say that I did know this wonderful person.  We will miss her dearly.

As I wrote, I found out at the last minute that I was teaching two classes here in the city of Chicago. I didn't speak to the department chair - a very nice Jamaican woman (sounds better than Miss Cleo) - until Saturday afternoon.  I had to be here Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. (no biggie).  When I got here I had about 2000 forms and documents to fill out before discovering they require a drug test.  Since I hadn't taken it yet, I was not supposed to teach that day.  I was allowed to address the class for about 20 minutes.  I didn't even have a syllabus ready to hand out since I was hired literally at the last moment!  I did have my other class yesterday and everything was ready to go for them.  They impressed me.  They really seemed interested in their education.  That makes me happy.

Oh well.  I am still sooooooooooooooooooooo grateful for this! Sure, it's only part-time, but it keeps me busy, an they pay a lot better than Backstabber University did.  Plus, I'm doing two classes I absolutely adore, and I will have an office to use (but no computer in there - I go to the library for that).  I'm already having fun. Now all I need is for that editor job to also start up and I'll reall be doing okay.  Until the end of the semester, of course.

And before you ask, yes, I passed my drug test.  Smart asses.

Time to go ruin some young minds.  More on my transitioning next time!
