Almost outing myself

Lately I've been getting a little too, well, "honest." Finally.

First, in my Wednesday night class two weeks ago, I damn near talked about transgenderism from a personal point of view. We were discussing alternative American cultures and the GLBT issue came up. I described to them the process by which we transition, and the difference between gender identity and sexuality. They all looked at me, and reacted, as if they were saying "You seem to know an awful lot about this." Well, YES, I do.

My Chicago tour gig is incredible. I put in over 40+ hours a week these days. From last Saturday through Monday I did three straight days of 13 hours. On the tour, whether it's the architectural or the lake/river tour, I point out the former Apparel Center. Originally it had no windows because the apparel industry felt its products were best viewed in artificial light. I always say, "You know, so that when we select our skirts and dresses we see them in the best possible way." The former home of Helene Curtis is on the tour because the building was designed by Gustav Hallberg, a pioneer in the use of reinforced concrete. I always say "Helene Curtis, where us girls get our cosmetics." They all laugh because they think I'm joking. Uh huh.

But I am enjoying this job. I generally do good on the tips, which are not required but soooooooooooo nice when I get them. I'm part Polish, and the other day we had a group from Poland. I spoke what little Polish I knew on the tour. No tips. The next day I had a group from Russia. I'm part Russian, and spoke what little Russian I knew on the tour. Tips!

One of the things I love about this job is that I literally meet people from all over the world - New Zealand, Africa, India, Taiwan, China, Japan, Germany, Sweden, England, Ireland, Canada, Russia, Poland, you name it. And they've all been so wonderful. I love this job!

I gave the security deposit on the flat, so hopefully within the next week I can finally move in. I am also getting impatient for the endo visit. I want to get this all started!
