Getting Back to Earth

Had a great time in Fla. Went fishing everyday untill Thur. Fresh water fishing I got skunked. But Spending the mornings on the boat with my nephews was realy great. We all grew up together. Their only a couple years younger than me & we were allways close. Now I only see these 2 a couple times a year. So not catching fish didn't matter being with them did. Realy we spent most of the time putting around the lake drinking beer looking at the wildlife & bullshitting. It just felt good to be with them again.

Salt water was another story. Our first day out we stopped at a buoy. My cousin cast a net for bait & it too 2 of us to lift it in the boat. We had about 300lbs of baitfish. We stayed in the flats & allmost every cast we were pulling in trout. Not real big but they do fight good & good eating. Then we went to this sandy area by Holliday Beach.  They had me stand ready to cast while we drifted. Then yell, cast there,or cast there. All I could see were shadows in the water. After 2hrs my arms were so tired I wanted to quit. But then somthing grabbed my line & allmost pulled me off my feet. When it jumped I allmost jumped out of my skin. I never saw a fish that big.  It was a Tarpon not good to eat but very fun to hook. I never got it in after a half hour my cousin cut the line & let it go. They teased for the rest of the day for being out done by a fish. My arms were so tired I didn't pickup anything heavier than a beer.

The next day we fished for Snook. We didn't catch many & had to release what we did catch their out of season. But they fight hard. It was FUN!!

The last day we fished we went out for Grouper. It was a 25 mile boat ride. By the time we got there I was ready to go back. My insides were pounded to hell. Everytime we went over a wave it was like coming down on bricks. Then you rig your poles to the back of the boat & ride around untill something hooks on & reel it in.( Boring!!!) The most fun I had was when we stopped for about an hour. Hook up a squid on your hook & just drop it over the side. Something grabbed my line & I could not lift it fast enough to keep it out of the rocks. It took all my strength just to keep it evan for a few seconds. I didn't know about the rocks so I lost it fast. We stayed out for allmost 14hrs only stopped for one. I won't be doing that no more. At least not in that small boat.

As far as eating them we cleaned them, froze them & went out for dinner. It was the ladies that decided that. The men run the buisness. The women run the family. They get what they want & don't you dare get in their way. They are a very close group. I'll talk more about them in my next post & about being one of them for 2 days. (sort of).
