Loved your comments and agree with most of them, Beasts of No Nation and Concussion were both oscar worthy nominations. I also agree that Danish Girl could have been better, but the lead actors were excellent. Keep up the good writing, I enjoyed it.

      Thanks, Gerri

Thank you, Gerri my dear! I love your feedback. Can't wait to see Concussion. Also if Beasts of No Nation were nominated for best director...he's half Japanese, a mixed race person like me! That would have been cool to see that.

So I checked out a pretty scathing movie review that someone posted in Lucy Diamond's review here on GS (I disagree with that spectator reviewer, I loved Eddie Redmayne's mannerisms and wasn't the least bit annoyed), and read some of the comments from ordinary people below the review in the comments section, and got a better understanding of the sexualized component of when Einar first puts on women's clothes. The part that may confuse cisgender folks like me and my husband. Here's just some of the exchange:

Cis person: I have a question, though, regarding the first part of the movie. I felt like Lili's becoming was very sexualized. The slow caress of the camera along her legs, her flirting, her almost sexual reaction to female clothes, her exploration of sexuality by mirroring the lady in the cabin. Is that an accurate representation, from your experience?

MtF TG person: Well , from my own journey , there was a certain amount of sexual excitement at the beginning. Realising that one could start to try and dress and behave like a woman was exciting. I went to fetish clubs for two years previous to deciding to transition , learning how to dress and act within the confines of a safe place.
At that period there was a huge amount of sexual excitement , but that may have been down to my late sexual development , as opposed to wanting to change gender. In fact at that point I had no intention of changing gender. That developed over the couple of years , as I was becoming more and more comfortable behaving and dressing like a woman.
Sone people may find that disgusting , going to a fetish club , but I can assure you that clubs like that are a lot safer to go to than a normal night club !

From Lilli's point of view I , of course , shouldn't really comment as I am not Lilli.
But…The camera , I think , did sexualise her realisation of gender-change. So , quite possibly , there was a degree of it in her mind...

...No two transitions will ever be the same. It is not possible to say : "you have to do it this way."
Each individual who transitions will tell his , or her , own story and each will be different.

I think what was happening is that Lilli was getting in touch with her feminine side. This wasn't a case where someone was just getting kicks out of crossdressing; this was someone who really felt that he/she was actually trapped in the wrong body. When people start taking hormones and talking about a sex change, there is some serious business going on. I am not one of those people - I am happily married like yourself and just get a kick out of crossdressing; and it is sexually stimulating.

I thought Redmayne did an excellent job portraying Lilly. Most of the complaints that you are going to get are going to be from MTF transexuals who feel that they should have used a TS actor; and that is a legitamate complaint. But in this case, I cannot see anyone doing a better job.

I saw your comment about the Avengers and I agree with you. I should of watched the previous movie in order to have some background, but I forgot to. Whenever I am  watching television series that go from year-to-year, I always go back and watch the last few episodes from the previous year. My bad...

      Enjoy your comments

I mean, yeah, when I ponder on it some more, Lili possibly also felt excited that her wife accepted her dressed as a woman at that moment and got even more turned onto her because of that acceptance. But for the average Joe Schmo, it's hard enough to explain to them that gender and sexual preference are separate, not to mention then add getting turned on on top of that, so it was pretty risky to add that extra nuance to the movie.

I suppose it does remind me of a time a long time ago when I was reading Henry Miller, or no, maybe Anais Nin, when a young innocent woman was alone in her room, caressing her body and it felt good, then her hand brushed across her...(clearing throat)...well you get the gist! Hey, it's a classic literature erotica book! So yes, self-discovery includes all facets of the human experience!

Yes, that would be a valid complaint, but I agree, no one could have played it better, he has an effeminate quality about him already, as opposed to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson! My husband would make a beautiful woman! He's got big eyes and such thick eyelashes it looks like he's naturally wearing eyeliner! He's mixed Portuguese, Sicilian, etc... I've asked if I could put makeup on him and he says "No"...ah, he's no fun! Just kidding!

P.S. One of my favorite Eddie Redmayne movies before anyone even knew him is Black Death. Recommend if you like horror movies.

Off topic, why can't I post a photo on the wall? Keeps saying unable to load. Not for basic membership or an off day for the site? Thanks.
