We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

The DVD tagline is: "A Superstar Actress is really a man... Hollywood's Strangest Story!" The idea is supposedly to tell the story of Mae West (East-Wast, very subtle....) who was allegedly a drag queen. Not a very good film and poor transfer (from video tape, I think) from DVD issuer Substance. Contains full frontal nudity.
I put together a filmography on every film I buy or rent:

This is the story of probably the first modern TS, the danish landscape artist Einar Wegener who took the name Lili Elbe.
Einar's wife,Greta, was also a painter and persuaded him to sit for her-dressed as a woman. This obviously awoke the woman in him and the resulting transition ended tragically in 1933 in a hospital in Dresden. Exactly what operations were carried out is not exactly clear but ,bearing in mind that immuno-suppressants and HRT were not available in the 1930's,they seem to have involved some fairly hefty transplantations-womb,ovaries etc.

Just a note...in the first movie, Tarrkin's title is "Grand Moff". I don't know what it is but it sounds impressive, or something you'd mumble when hugging your grandmother.

My cable system has On Demand, which means I can order from a wide menu of movies, many of which are free. Last night I saw they just added Stanley Kramer's 1963 classic screwball slapstick comedy "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World."
I had not seen that film in its entirety for at least 20 years! Sure, it was silly slapstick at times, but I forgot how much fun it could be. From what I know this was Kramer's only comedy. To me, his best film will always be "Inherit the Wind."
That got me to thinking: Girls, have you been able to watch any films that you haven't seen in years, and absolutely love to watch?
OR - is there a film you haven't seen for years and would dearly love to watch?
Let's get this going, especially since I hope to sponsor another movie trivia contest in the chatroom soon.

Probably one of the most successful Actors in Hollywood history has died today !
Paul Newman lost his battle with Cancer this morning, at the ageof 83.
Not only was he a 3 time winner of an Oscar, he was an Actor, Director, Producer, Leading Charity Donor,Head of a Food Company, Racing Driver & CEO of a Motor Racing Team.
His films are just TOO many to even start listing !
You'll all have your favourite .................... mine was The Sting.

My question: WHY?!?!?!?
Yes, the stage shows pops up from time to time, but that's a different situation. The original film is a classic, despite the low budget campiness. Or is it because of the low budget campiness?
There is no cast announced yet, but it was mentioned they are using the screenplay from the first film.
This is one of the reasons I no longer go to movies; the bankruptcy of ideas. Why must we forced to endure one remake after another?
I am not above improvement or change, but there are some things that are better left alone. less

I read in the paper this morning, a review of a new ( to the UK cinema, at least ) film, entitled XXY.
It's directed by Lucia Puenzo, a first feature film by this Argentinian director.
The review gives a brief synopsis of the story-line .......................
Basically, the lead character, Alex, (played by Ines Efron) is a solitary, tomboy-ish 15 year old, living with her parents, in an isolated town. It emerges that Alex is a hermaphrodite.
Raised as a girl, she has taken hormones and other drugs to suppress any male characteristics.
Now she must decide whether to undergo an operation, that is, in effect, a castration.
The review goes on to say that her life is depicted with great sensitivity, in a thoughtful tale of indentity, individuality and the quest for love.
They rate it with 4 Stars (Very Good), so I just thought that I should bring this film to your attention.
It might well be worth seeing!
As I said, it,s a new release in the UK and Ireland. Possibly, as is normal, it's... less
