We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Oh and due to the fact that because of typical European beaucracy I don't actually qualify for a vote at present, not being resident in my home country nor being resident long enough in France. Typical!!
As Billy Connolly said "Politicians!! Don't vote for them it only encourages them!!"

Despite our physical features we can project a visible female imagine to lessen our chances to be read. I will give a few examples to explain my point. When we walk into a room and feel self-conscious about what we look like we have a better chance of being read. We need to feel that we are women and act that way. It is a mental understanding of who we are. The manner of how we walk and how we act in public will either give us away cause people not to even look at us Most people don’t care at all about you unless there is something to notice. When we are very friendly to people even if they know or suspect, they will probably accept you because they just like you.
This is a search that will help us all. Please tell us how and what you did to keep from being read in public.
Hope to get some great suggestions.

This belongs to my program "Out into the World". I´ll let you know later on how it was. It is very likely I see there people I know. Another story is, if they recognize me ).

Again at my bus stop. There you meet the world. Yesterday we were a bunch of us ladies standing there waiting for our bus. And there came also a finnish moslem woman. Hair and legs covered. I noticed that she got looks and staring from our ladies side, I´m afraid I was one of them. So....I didn´t get any looks or staring, but the poor moslem lady got them. Must there always be somebody we stare at? That made me somehow sad.

I continue my program "Out into the world as your true self". Yeaterday I attended a cultural town walk in Helsinki downtown organized by the eurosingles. It was interesting and nice...but nearly only us women. Out of 43 there were maybe just 5 guys. Maybe men are not interested in cultural matters. But they missed the chance to meet us wonderful single women . Well...the 5 men were all right, one of them could not keep his eyes off from me.

On saturday I met my new customers. The married couple picked me up and we drove to their summer residence, which is supposed to be extended. I took some pics with my digicamera and we sat down and they offered me coffee and brandy as we talked about the alternative extension possibilities. To them I was obviously just Laura T., a lady architect recommended to them by one of their friends. That gave me, together with the brandy, a certain euphory for the whole weekend. This is what I want from life: out into the world as the true yourself.

I said, no, I´m not a man. But he kept on talking. So I showed him my passport and asked if Laura is a man´s name. He was SO embarrased and apologized and asked if he could buy me a drink or something...I said no thanks. I think this was a good lesson for him to think first and then talk .

I was aware that I represent my city to them and I tried to smile much and also tell some anecdotes from the environment we were passing through. I wore a jeans-skirt, a pullover and a silk scarf. I don´t know if they noticed that I am a ts, they said nothing in that direction. And who cares . I did my best.

Last friday night I was a bit out just like that. We celebrated the first of May and people go out, drink, dance and kiss. I was in four different places, and in three of them a man started to talk to me. We talked maybe an hour or so and my conversation companions had obviously no doubts about my gender. Otherwise they would not have offered me drinks and even kissed me as I left. I feel a bit ashamed...I kissed three guys on the same evening. But that is not against the law...and I am a single woman. On sunday I got a phone call from a guy I had been chatting with in the net. He knew my name, so it was no problem for him to fish out my phone number. He wanted to invite me for a coffee or so. I thanked and said I try to recover from the first of May...he understood and said okay, then some other time. I cannot believe...I passed with my far away from complete voice.....

After a while I noticed that two guys moved from further away to my neighbouring table and started to give looks in my direction. I pretended not to see them. As I was close to leave for my bus, one of them asked if I have a husband or a boyfriend with me or if I´m alone in the pub. I answered quite rudely that it is none of your business. He said, you´re right, not my business, but such a beautiful woman certainly HAS a boyfriend. I wanted to say that I have a boyfriend, still taller than me (that is much!) and he is ready to beat you guys. But I just said I must get on my bus. And gave them one of my sweetest smiles. I guess I lack routine in this kind of situations....luckily I gain routine and confidence every day .

Well - it made me think that maybe one of you can help me with a bit of a personal problem:
I would probably qualify as a crossdresser but I do make a strong point in passing. It is very important to me to look as much like a natural girl as I can.
But one thing I can't seem to get right in a simple way: "Hiding the bulge."
I am very thin so that even the slightest bulge is visible when wearing i.e. a tight skirt, dress or pants (and I do like clothes to be a bit tight).
-I've tried using a "caché" but it's not compressing enough.
-I've tried using ace-bandages, but it cuts off the blood in my hips.
-I've tried using 4-5 cut off pantyhose tops on top of each other, but it's hot, it's too tight around the hips.
-I've even tried plaster cast - It worked out ok, but too much trouble and the risk of making a visible line in my clothing.
So - I would really like to know what you girls are using and HOW to get... less

Of course, since I have gone full-time and I have put a lot of work into my voice and appearance, I seldom have trouble passing. But it was a bit of a rush going into redneck territory and passing just fine.
Here are the details. I went to the gun show today. This is not the first time I have been there dressed (the first time I was more nervous and was definitely not as good at this yet) but this time I took a concealed carry class that was offered on the premises. I was the only woman in the class, and the other attendees ranged from "typical" men who like guns to some who seemed like they might be a little scary. Interacting with the instructor and the class, I saw no sign that anyone read me. The instructor even explained to me some of the best ways for ladies to handle semi-automatic handguns. (I am a revolver girl, so my familiarity with semi-automatics isn't that... less
