We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

It needs to be one with a camera though.
We all know that we sound worse on the phone than in face to face situations as well so this is a double whammy!
Just use the video option to record your voice and then play it back and be honestly critical about it. You can do this pretty much anywhere, at home, in the car, outside etc, and since you are likely to have your phone with you most of the time it makes it ideal.
I have been trying this over the weekend, just recording short messages every now and then and I can already hear the difference. And if you want a second opinion, send it to a friend to see what they think.

I was pretty unsure where to put this one, but I thought "passing in public" is just fine. If Katie disagrees, she is free to move it wherever it fits best.
Anyway...
It's been a long time since I wrote something in here. The last time I was active in these forums was back in the days when I saw Jules Jule post a lot in here. (is she still active?) Still, I remember some of the users in here like Laura, who is desperately trying to keep the German forum active. Laura, maybe I'm trying to help you out a bit there.
Well things have changed a bit. I started studying while still working, so my free-time is pretty limited. I considered myself as being a transvestite and came out to a lot of my friends and parents almost a decade ago. About 3 years ago, me and my girl-friend broke up, since she didn't feel like having a boy-friend rather than someone in between the genders. But, to make things clear - that was not THE reason, more like one among some others, that I felt too and made me too... less

She said her ex husband was a pervo who had sex with animals and children and was "of course also a tranny".
Actually I could not believe this, I have never heard of a person having been all this together. The poor lady obviously has mental problems herself. I said something like "Oh my goodness". And did not comment that any further. What would you have said?
Now some of trans people here say I´m a coward and should have stood up. But on the other hand I cannot support pedophiles...
Do I have "obligations" to stand up for trans people? I really do not know.

Usually my posts are in response to others, but I just had a wonderful experience, and wanted to share it...
Up to now, almost all of my public outings have been in "non-social" venues, such as the gas station, or shopping at all-night stores. This morning I had the unusual chance to go out in the daytime, and I decided to do something very daring, and go to church en femme... It was the biggest risk of "outing" I had ever taken, since I would be in close contact with others for about an hour, and would be making vocal prayer responses and singing hymns. Everything went ok, though, and I did not get any funny or accusing looks. But at the end of the service, as I was starting to leave my place to exit the church, the woman who had been at my right for the entire service took hold of my arm and stopped me!
She smiled in such a friendly manner, and said, "I just wanted to compliment you on your beautiful voice.. I wish I could sing like you!"
I must say, it not... less

I have been working on this project as the competition secretary and I presented the competition program to about 50 people, engineers, businessmen and architects. Among whom at least 10 old acquaintances, who once knew me as a man.
Everybody was very nice and friendly to me, of course they knew my story. We are a small country and my name has changed only with one letter. But I just have to live with it.

Shopping or greeting your neighbours is the easy part, it gets more difficult when you must explain longer stories. And the hardest is to pass in the telephone.
People tend to understand that a person kind of IS his or her voice. If a woman opens her mouth and speaks with a male voice, people react "aha, that IS a man", in spite of everything else.
The last couple of years I have passed even on the phone, thanks to my voice therapist. Before the therapy I had problems convincing people on the phone about my identity.

Yesterday I went to my emplyer´s health center in order to get their paycheck fot the gyneologist. My office offers to us ladies one gyne visit each year. The reception girl said I must call to a number she gave me on a piece of paper. I returned to my desk and called.( By the way, this is the ultimate passing test: get a paycheck for the gyneologist by the phone! ) I explained my matter, they asked my id-code and the P.O. box of my office and promised to send the letter over to me.
I guess I must believe I pass anywhere.

Ms Kaisa V., an architect, was in my office in a meeting with me and when leaving she said: " By the way, greetings from Risto P." I said: Oh yes? Thanks." She continued: "Well...I´m now married to him." Risto P. is my classmate from high school and I can be sure Kaisa knows all about me and my past.
I guess I just have to say to myself, as I often say: don´t worry about matters you can do nothing with.

I remember the high and kicks I got from my first passings as a woman. It is over now. I don´t even know if it´s good or bad. I know that I pass in the most cases, but I don´t take it too seriously if not. If somebody stares at me I only give back my sweetest smile. It help always, either I get back a smile or the person turns his head in another direction. And when smiling we look much more feminine, anyway.

You may have big feet or hands, adams apple, be too tall or some small detail that may give you away. I think that the more details you get right and the more feminine characteristics you master, the less your big feet, hands or whatever other problem you have will matter.
Most women can ignore all the things I address below and still not get their femininity questioned but when a transsexual tries to pass, they have to try to stand out as little as possible.
I have a few thoughts and also some experience in how to pass that I base on my own experience and on talks I have had with the various people I see at the gender clinic.
