We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I sat down on a bench further away, but one of the guys came after me and tried to get close. I said please leave, I´m not interested, but he grap on me and then I kicked him at his scrotch. He was so surprised that a woman fights back that he left me alone...but threw my at the kick fallen off sandal down on the subway rails. I got furious and yelled "You better get it back". Then we got already the station security men there and pretty soon the police. They wanted to see our documents, I gave my passport, everything okay. The drunk guy had no documents. The police said the case is closed, this lady only protected herself. The security man collected my sandal from the rails. The police sent the guy away from the station but wished me happy journey.

I am over 6 feet tall and have been going out for about 5 yrs.
I never wear flats; I wouldn't be seen dead without my heels! I think the secret is to wear sensible day or night shoes and dress appropriately for the occasion.
I am now confident enough to wander around shopping malls in daylight and even try clothes on before I buy. Sure, I get read often and I was terrified when I first went out. BUT, as you gain confidence it is a great experience and I usually get treated just as a woman because that is how I behave.
Don't be afraid. Enjoy yourself. Life is too short to worryb about what other people might think.

I was present and thought I was the only woman there with a trans past, tried to walk around and look for others. With no succeed. Now I know that there were at least 10 other transwomen and the fact that only those found each other who already KNEW each other, shows that we all pass okay.
A transwoman in the summertime, in a very light dress, should be easy to recognize, especially, if you are looking for them in a party like this. But to pick them out turned out to be an impossible task.

For the last 2-3 years or so I've been wearing women's panties, almost always a thong. I started with women's panties. I've worn a bra as well, off and on over that time period, but recently I wear a bra more and more when I go out and about. I've been wearing women's slacks, tops and shoes in public for years too. Lately, I mean all the time! I don't often do skirts and dresses and never in public. I'm now at the point where I have more women's things than men's. But most of what I own and wear could pass for men's clothes unless you know what you're looking at. I do my nails and often wear makeup on my lips, eyes, and face. I love going out to the grocery store in full makeup, polished nails, and dressed in nothing but girl clothes. I often shop that way in women's stores and other places. Lately, I've been dressing in attitude too. By that I mean that I just think up an aura around me that says, "I AM GIRL" and I feel so feminine, glowing... less

Did you have some signs before your transition, something your friends or family said about you even though you tried to hide it all?
I had many of those. "You throw the ball like girls" (my classmates). "Boys don´t have that wide hips" (my big sister). "You walk like a woman" (a female friend). "You have a female face" (another female friend). The most strange event happened when a medical doctor wrote a statement for me and wrote there as sex "a woman". Long before my transition.

The first day, 7 hours, in front of the TV cameras is over and it went just fine. The next studio day will be on May 16th. The competition goes on the whole summer long saturday evenings on our channel one.
The three finalists will meet each other in August.
All the best to you TW ladies, and please wish me luck.

I went full time fast, like 7 months after I started hormones. Now, up until recently I had though I was way ahead of the game as far as passing goes b/c I very rarely got those strange looks that make us all uncomfortable. Anyways, now I've been full time about 8 months an on hormones for over a year, but I feel like I get read a lot more than I did when I first went full time. Has anyone else had this kind of experience? A friend of mine told me that I'm getting the looks now because before people knew right off that I was a transsexual and now they look at me harder because it's harder for them to figure it out, meaning these uncomfortable stares are in a way a good thing and also temporary. I'm just hoping to get some other opinions on the subject. Thanks,

I dont mind changing my mind and going in a totally new way at the drop of a hat. The goal however never really changes its just how I go about getting that goal that does. I want to travel and I want to own my own bar.
So my new plan on getting this done is becoming a flight attendant. I have a massive desire to travel and I want to see 30 countries before I reach 30 years old. The thing holding me back right now is the fact that to get my surgery done I took out a loan to pay for it. So I am stuck at home trying to work out some way of paying the loan off.
It was actually my Mum who really put the thought in my head. I never thought I could be a flight attendant as I thought they are all so much smaller and prettier than me. Though when I was traveling back from Bangkok with my Mum, she pointed out lots and lots of flight attendants that were both bigger than me and less attractive than me!! This... less

I gave him back a smile and went out for my bus. Sitting already in the bus I suddenly see him sitting down opposite to me and start a conversation: "I just had to follow you because you have got so beautiful legs". I said thanks and laughed and we had actually a very nice conversation on the way home. He introduced himself, he is an engineer emloyed by the municipality, freshly divorced (of course!) and loves to write and paint...and adors architects and tall women, at least he claimed that. When I was about to leave the bus he said: "What would you say if I invited you sometimes for coffee or a drink?" I laughed: "You´ll find out when you try".
He was nearly desperate: "But do I ever meet you again?".
I said as farewell: "We are nearly neighbours, we meet for sure, if it is ment to be that way".
At home I felt happy. It was so nice to swim and... less

Like what you're saying about finding a job, Meredith - I'm applying for a female position and if I want it I must do what I can to please the board of directors. I'm not too good at it.

From there we (five ladies) went into a nearby bar and four of us landed finally in a movie people party with food and drinks and men. I left the place after midnight, my sister first said she would come with me, but found then some guy and stayed...hehe.
She kept on saying to me that I´m SO much nicer and in many ways better as a sister than as a brother. And that she, according to her, has a lot to learn from me...
Anyway...we had FUN.
